Montgomery County VINE Coverage
Maryland VINE is a free, anonymous service that reports custody and court status. Two local sources support Montgomery County participation. DOCR points custody inquiries to VINELink, and MCPD victim/witness material says VINE can check whether a person is in MCDC and notify a registered user of a transfer or release. That handoff matters here. DOCR publishes no automated offender roster of its own.
Think of VINE as the alert layer. Daily Arrests covers short-term booking data, while DOCR Records answers a specific custody or location question. These are different tools. Someone can appear in recent arrest data yet already be released, or sit in custody while a feed row lags or expires. The current VINELink interface is the Maryland search route.
The search screen starts a check for one person and shows no gallery.
Check a Montgomery VINE Arrest
VINELink lets you search for a Montgomery arrest by name or by an identification number. The fields shown may shift over time. Trust the labels on the live VINELink screen rather than any fixed list of search boxes.
- Open VINELink and choose Maryland as the service area.
- Select the available county or statewide custody context.
- Enter the person’s name or known identification number.
- Compare multiple matches with every non-sensitive detail shown.
- Open only the matching custody record.
- Register for alerts from that result if the option is offered.
A shared surname proves little. Check age or ID details when they appear, then use the arrest date, agency, or court case as a second test. VINELink does not promise a booking photo, an exact custody unit, or every court field. Treat gaps as gaps. What if several people match? Add an ID number or another field to cut the list down. Still unsure? Call DOCR Records at 240-777-9730 instead of guessing at a record.
Montgomery VINE Result Fields
A VINELink result depends on what the participating record holds. Think of these as possible custody fields, not guaranteed columns.
| Result element | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name or identifier | Match aid; verify it against another known fact. |
| Custody status | Reported participating-system status at the latest update. |
| Facility or agency | May identify the reporting custodian when available. |
| Transfer or release | A custody change that may trigger a registered alert. |
| Court status | Available only where the linked record and service provide it. |
| Photograph | Not promised; VINE is not a mugshot search. |
Custody status answers one question only: where the person is right now. It says nothing about how a charge ends. Maryland Case Search is the record to watch for court dates and outcomes. Sealed, juvenile, and expunged files stay outside its reach.
Register Montgomery Custody Alerts
There is no permanent public link for signing up. Registration starts from the matching record itself. Maryland's VINE brochure walks through a phone signup that uses a four-digit PIN. One account can hold several phone numbers and email addresses. Delivery options range from phone and text to email, TTY, and in-app notice. The exact set depends on the interface shown.
- Confirm that the result belongs to the correct person.
- Choose the notification or registration option on that record.
- Select the offered phone, email, text, TTY, or app channel.
- Create and retain the four-digit PIN when phone registration requests it.
- Confirm the contact details and keep them current.
- Return to the record if circumstances or contact information change.
Pick a phone you alone control. Skip a shared switchboard. Alerts can come overnight, and the brochure warns that unanswered calls may keep repeating for 24 hours or more. VINE keeps registration confidential from the person in custody, though your phone, inbox, and PIN still need guarding.
Montgomery Release Alert Types
Maryland VINE sends alerts for three core events: release, escape, and transfer. Probation, parole, and hearing updates may appear too. Where the record allows, court notices can follow. Treat any alert as word of a change, nothing more. It is not a safety plan or a court order. If danger feels immediate, call the right public-safety agency. The local payoff sits in MCPD's victim/witness instructions. Those directions tie MCDC admissions straight to VINE and tell you to confirm release or admission with the jail. So the sequence runs: verify the MCDC entry, find the VINE record, then register for the change alerts you want. The state line for Maryland VINE is 1-866-634-8463, with TTY at 1-866-847-1298. Neither number is the Montgomery County jail Records line.
Fresh Montgomery Arrest Limits
VINE rarely shows a brand-new Montgomery County arrest. The CPU usually needs about four hours to process a booking. Workload and officer paperwork can stretch that further. Public information appears only after the first commissioner appearance. VINE updates on its own participating-system schedule. A search run minutes after an arrest may return nothing at all. Arrested Today shows the public CPU-derived booking window instead. For a specific custody question, call DOCR Records. The DOCR inmate-information page states the no-automated-list policy and routes users to VINE and Records.
The official DOCR page explains why a direct call to Records still anchors any dependable Montgomery County custody check.
Federal Custody Is Separate
Federal custody falls outside VINE entirely. Maryland's own brochure says the system does not cover the federal Bureau of Prisons. A transfer to federal or immigration custody can also end the county VINE trail. For federal prison custody, use the Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. ICE Online Detainee Locator handles immigration detention. Neither one is a Montgomery County booking feed. Neither is a mugshot gallery. A blank VINE result can mean release before a searchable record appeared. It can also signal a move to a nonparticipating system, restricted data, or an identity mismatch. Before drawing any conclusion, check the county booking data, DOCR Records, and the proper court.
Maintain Montgomery VINE Registration
A Montgomery VINE alert is only as good as its delivery details. Keep the PIN somewhere safer than a shared phone. When a number or email changes, update the registration right away. A notice that never arrives does nothing. It cannot change the custody event behind it. Each alert deserves a quick check against the matching record. The brochure also warns that calls can come at any hour. Pick a private line able to take them.
Treat notifications as a prompt, not proof. The person in custody never sees the registrant's details through VINE. Even so, privacy still rests on the registrant's own control of that phone and inbox. If a registration option disappears after a release or transfer, contact the correct county, state, or federal custodian. Do not force a match with a similar name.
After a Montgomery VINE Notice
A release alert means one thing only: the system reported a custody change. Bond terms are not included. Court orders, supervision, and the final case result are all left out too. A transfer alert may simply point to another county facility. It may also point to a new system. Its locator then has to be checked on its own. For public court events, Maryland Case Search is the tool. The court or DOCR holds the official record. Each office maintains its own.
Custody questions go to DOCR. The agency runs both MCDC and the CPU. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office does not operate the jail. Its Criminal Section instead handles specified Circuit Court warrants. It also handles domestic-violence-related District Court arrest warrants. Civil body attachments and fugitive work fall there too. So skip the Sheriff's general office when the question is who is in custody.
